The three-dimensional folding of the alpha-globin gene domain exposes the formation of chromatin globules. A study published in 2011 by Bau reveals that this unique folding pattern enables efficient gene regulation. Figure 4 depicts the ENm008 region, which contains the alpha-globin locus. The three-dimensional model shows the K562 cell line's structure, with regulatory elements represented as red spheres for HS40, orange spheres for other hypersensitive sites, and green spheres for CTCF binding regions.
