I actually designed this model a while back, before going pro and getting my Zortrax M200, but I was never fully satisfied with it. Now that I know more and have a printer capable of doing justice to the design, it's time to revisit and do a proper job. This is a replica of the Japanese Samurai shortsword known as the Wakizashi. Typically carried in a side scabbard next to the longsword (the Katana), which most people know as the 'Samurai sword', it was used for close-quarters combat or when the Samurai needed to fight with two swords at once. Assassins like the Ninja also used the Wakizashi, often carrying a second one for the same reasons. My version of the Wakizashi is made in many more parts than my previous attempt; the blade still consists of six pieces (three left, three right) that fit together to form the whole, but the handle is now broken into several sections instead of being one solid piece. To make it stronger, I've cut channels into the core where you can insert strengthening rods or simply use lollysticks. These channels extend up into the crossguard for added reinforcement. It's still not durable enough for sparring and shouldn't be used for that purpose anyway, given its 3D printed nature. Two additional channels run along the length of the blade where you can insert further strengthening rods (I use garden stakes, but feel free to suggest better alternatives). You'll still notice the joins on the blade, which can be filled with filler or resin and then sprayed with chrome paint for a one-piece appearance. Let me stress this point: THIS IS NOT A FUNCTIONAL WEAPON. It's a replica designed for cosplay or ornamental purposes only, and I accept no responsibility if it's used otherwise. I'm still undecided about selling it on Etsy but feel free to message me if you'd like me to print one for you, and we'll work out the details.
