$10.00Adaptive Guitar Slide Holder for Mic Stands
myminifactory
I've been working closely with a long-time friend and guitarist to develop some innovative accessories for professional musicians, many of which you've probably already seen in my extensive library. Originally, I designed him a slide holder that could be mounted onto his guitar for quick access during solos, but every holder had to be custom-made to precisely fit the specific type of slide it would hold. Since there are countless types of slides out there, it was impossible to create a universal holder that could accommodate them all. So he issued me the challenge of making one that truly could - and I found this idea fascinating. It turned out to be a complex task to design, and this is actually the third iteration of the holder. This time, I mounted it onto a mic-stand; the holder repurposes the mechanism I use for my Iris Box, except this time instead of being the lid, it's actually the main body. When assembled, the side leaves will open and close, adapting to a wide variety of different slide bores; the maximum I found was just over 30mm, while the minimum was just under 20. The hole in the center, therefore, when the petals are fully closed is sized to that smaller bore, with the overall inner diameter of the top cog being the 30mm. Yes, like my Iris Box, this design (using a technical term) is a bit fiddly to assemble. You will also need five small pins that are 21mm long; I use cocktail sticks cut to length, and I did consider making them 3D printed too but I thought there was no way I could make them strong enough to survive in a working musician's kit-box. I've included photos at all stages of assembly (of the mechanism) so you should be able to put it together with ease. If you like it but don't want to assemble it, I do sell these printed and assembled (in a wide range of colors) in my Etsy store - www.etsy.com/shop/enterprisexddesign
