1" Stone LED Torch Pillar w/ Hidden Switch
thingiverse
I wanted a free-standing torch that could be turned on/off without relying on friction to connect the battery. This design features an on/off switch at the top, a battery compartment at the bottom, and can either sit atop an existing floor or attach securely to OpenLOCK tiles via a detachable OpenLOCK base. Since this product requires assembly and electronic components, I am also selling these assembled and ready for play in my Etsy shop (unpainted and painted options): https://www.etsy.com/shop/mckeemorology **UPDATE** January 23rd, 2019 - A revised OpenLOCK base has been added, featuring a thicker ring that is less likely to break and fits more snugly into the battery holder. Also included is a tighter switch holder/cover set with a slightly looser mounting area for the switch. This may require a small amount of glue but should not need forceful insertion with a screwdriver. Materials (links at bottom for some places to purchase) 1. SPDT switch ("13mm x 9mm x 6mm" measuring entire switch including mounting holes and pins) 2. CR2032 battery 3. CR2032 battery holder (This model is designed specifically for this size, see below) 4. 3mm LED, either regular or flickering 5. Hook Up Wire (I used 22 gauge stranded for flexibility, solid core is also fine but less flexible) 6. Resistor (I used 47ohm, which is "probably fine," but you may want to use a calculator e.g. http://www.ohmslawcalculator.com/led-resistor-calculator) 7. Superglue 8. Solder Tools 1. Soldering Iron 2. Wire strippers / cutters Printed Parts 1x Main Pillar Body 1x LED Torch Sconce 1x Battery Holder Shell 1x Switch Holder 1x Switch Cover 1x OpenLOCK base 1x LED Torch Flame (optional, in translucent filament) Instructions See instructions PDF for assembly. Variations For more advanced makers, multi-torch columns are possible by printing the corresponding Main Pillar Body and additional torch sconces. The wiring will be more complex with each added torch (watch out for shorts!). Wire the LEDs in parallel, not series. A wiring guide for multi-torch columns will be provided in the near future. Component Sources There are many options for purchasing components, here are some examples. Superglue - I prefer Gorilla Glue Gel. https://www.amazon.com/Gorilla-Super-Glue-Gram-Clear/dp/B00OAAUAX8 LEDs - Flickering LEDs have a chip inside for a random flickering effect. I purchased mine from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0785DQ8FD Hook Up Wire https://www.amazon.com/Stranded-different-colored-spools-included/dp/B00B4ZQ3L0 SPDT Switch - I obtained mine from eBay, but the link below is the exact type and size of switch that this product is designed for. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KBPSNE4/ CR2032 Battery Holder - I acquired mine from eBay, but the link below is the exact type and size of holder that this product requires. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JYNDZF0/
