I needed a way to add casters to one of my shelves, but I wasn't satisfied with the options available for casters featuring a 1/4" threaded post, which would have been significantly easier to use. To solve this problem, I designed an adapter that allows me to attach a 2" swivel caster to the 1" (25.6mm) legs of my shelf. The casters I used as references were Strongway 2" non-marking rubber swivel casters, which I purchased from Northern Tool - both with and without brakes. The screw holes in this adapter are 3.1mm in diameter, making them a suitable pilot hole for a #8 x 1/2" wood or sheet metal screw. While it's possible that a similar caster from another manufacturer might work, it's by no means guaranteed. I found that the simple design of this adapter is more likely to be compatible with a broader range of different models and is probably the better choice for 90%+ of users.
