Design by Andrew Walker Clues This sign is commonly seen on the side of a road. A type of road that connects two states can be found in-between them. Dwight Eisenhower served as president after WWII and during part of the Cold War, which led to the creation of this idea. This idea was created for military purposes but is now widely thought of as civilian only today. Significance and Research The object in question is an interstate highway sign. Details about the object include the president's name on it, and there are pictures of the president holding the sign, which is still standing today. President Dwight Eisenhower served from 1953 to 1961 as a Republican. Presidential Role & Contribution Eisenhower was Commander in Chief during his time in office. He issued an executive order known as the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956. Impact on America/ Significance This artifact marked the creation of the interstate highway system, which is still used today. I chose this president and artifact because I think Eisenhower and the interstate highway system are one of the most overlooked achievements in American history and are often not discussed in classes.
