The Danburite is a mineral made of calcium and boron silicate. Its name comes from the city of Danbury in Connecticut, USA, where it was first discovered by Charles Upham Shephard in 1839. The danburite is known for its distinct crystals, well-formed and often gem-quality, which are highly prized by collectors for jewelry-making purposes. Where can you find it in Mexico? The most famous locality for danburite is Charcas, San Luis Potosi, Mexico, from where large, transparent crystals with few impurities have been extracted. Where have the most beautiful specimens been found? Some of the largest crystals come from Dal'negorsk mines in Primorsky Krai, Russia. Another important locality is the Toroku mine in Takachiho, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. Finally, lovely golden brown crystals were found in Anjanabonoina, Betafo District, Madagascar.
