#1 DAD fridge magnet for fathers day. Accepts a 6 x 4mm round magnet in the back. Multiple options for printing. Recommend a 0.2mm layer height for all prints.

Option_1:

This one keeps it simple. Just open the #1_DAD file & slice it.

The file is oriented to print face down for a smooth & shiny finish on the faceplate. For added flash, add a color change a few layers in if you wish. (See the black & white text versions in the images for reference).

Option_2:

The second option is to load the faceplate file first, right click & center it on the build plate, slice it & save the file. There should be two layers in the print when sliced at 0.2mm.

Then before clearing the build plate, open the base file, center it as above & double check that the #1DAD text in the base, aligns correctly with the text in the face plate. (Both files are oriented to print face down for a smooth & shiny finish on the faceplate).

Once correctly aligned, delete the faceplate from the build plate, slice the base file & save the file under a different name.

You should have two gcode files now, one for the base & one for the faceplate.

Print the faceplate first in your desired color.

Then, as soon as the faceplate print is done, change color & print the base (don't remove the faceplate print from the build plate, the base is designed to print around & on top of the faceplate correctly).

This gives a nice effect of the text & external border having different colors & when printed face down on glass, a nice shine too. (See the orange & grey text versions in the images for reference).

*Note- when you slice the base, I recommend that you define the Z-seam position as “front left”. This way, when the base print starts, the nozzle will move from the home position to the front left of the model & avoid moving through the faceplate print which is still sitting on the build plate. When layer one is done, layer two should start in the same position (front left) & also avoid any travel moves through the faceplate.

My advice is to always double check the travel moves on the first couple of layers of the base. No travel moves should move through the interior of the model on the first two layers (the area where the faceplate print will be sitting on the build plate).

Please do post some makes. I'd love to see some different color schemes. Happy printing.
