The Z class Steam Crane is expected to be a dummy unit. No official release date has been announced. From the early 1900s, mobile rail cranes were operated by the Loco Branch and later by the Rolling Stock Branch. These steam-powered cranes played a crucial role in workshops and larger cranes were used for rerailing operations. The Way and Works Branch also operated some cranes for lifting rails at various times. In the 1950s, crane numbers underwent significant changes as they were consolidated onto one running list, eliminating previous duplicates. Some cranes came with support vehicles attached to them, providing coal or wood carriers for small steam cranes, while larger cranes had jib supports and tool trucks attached. These vehicles are known as Crane Tenders. The Geelong fitters crane is an interesting example of a cut-down underframe. It features the K crane's side sills and centre underframe section carrying the crane turntable casting on two axles with small wheels. Available data suggests that it may have been built from the deck of K 107, which was scrapped in Geelong in 1951.
