1/8 Scale Electric Violin

This design package contains everything required to create an 8th scale replica of the Electric Parametric Violin (Revision 2). This violin was initially conceived in Solidworks 2012 as part of a comprehensive parametric model that produces any needed size. To acquire CAD files, visit the linked source. This particular instrument is my third foray into electric violin design – preceding versions were an 8th scale prototype for my daughter and a 16th scale replica for my son. Similar to its predecessor, this design takes inspiration from David Perry's exceptional FFFiddle. EPV models come in various scales: 4/4 3/4 1/2 1/4 1/8 1/16 Detailed build instructions are available in the provided documentation. Printing considerations: Split components for larger parts have been included for smaller printer compatibility. All parts were printed with a 15% infill, 4 shells and raft enabled. When printing the fingerboard, it's recommended to refrain from support material since removing it is challenging due to long holes within the component. A piece of music wire can be used to facilitate support removal, in conjunction with a drill for cleanup purposes. ABS plastic was chosen; however any stiff polymer would be acceptable. Components needed but not provided: * Schaller M6 Mini tuners (three plus three) * K&K sound "Twin spot" piezoelectric pickup * A quarter-inch rod or tube, where tubing is preferred as it obviates the need for drilling. * Violin strings * 20 inches of music wire (.025 – .035 inch diameter); ball-end violin strings are viable alternatives. Tools: A hacksaw can be used to cut a notch at the end of the tubing that captures the music wire's knot. A small Phillips head screwdriver facilitates tuning screws. Several grits of sandpaper can be employed for fingerboard surface smoothing; mild solvents also prove useful in this process. Appropriate hand tools and precision instruments are needed to clean prints.
