This is a universal bowden extruder, designed to work seamlessly with both 1.75 and 3mm filament despite its versatility, I've only personally tested it on 1.75mm filament. I have limited experience with this extruder as I built it for my custom 3D printer, which utilizes the robust 28BYJ-48 stepper motors, so far, I haven't pushed the limits beyond 15mm/second at 0.2mm layer height. Based on its design, I suspect that it may not be able to handle speeds above 30mm/second at 0.2mm layer heights. (I apologize for the low-quality picture; it's late at night, but I promise to post better images and a video of it in action soon.) There's plenty of space for a bigger one if you can find it. Instructions: Note: Before attempting this project, you must modify the motors to be bipolar (follow these instructions: http://www.electronicsmayhem.com/?p=13). Attach drive gear to stepper motor Place stepper motor in place, ensuring the pegs fit inside the metal holes Snap the two pieces together Slide the ball bearing into the opening Insert the 8mm rod through the bearing Attach rubber bands to the rod, applying tension on the drive gear Screw in brass Teflon tube fittings (they should fit well inside) at either end of the extruder (you can get away with one, but you risk the filament going astray) Load the filament and you're ready to go!
