1.75 FilaCleaner
thingiverse
The FilaCleaner is crafted to strip away impurities (such as dust particles etc) before the filament arrives at the extruder. To create the filter, I cut out a section of foam from an inexpensive foam brush I acquired at Hobby Lobby. The foam brush comes in two sections- one is the base of the unit, and the other serves as the top. The "Top" part has a loose fit on the foundation to allow for simple access to the filter. Unlike other designs that are spring loaded, the FilaCleaner utilizes its own walls to press the filter against the filament ensuring reliable filtering of the filament. This FilaCleaner was manufactured using FreeCad. The steps are as follows: I printed this out reliably with PLA and these settings: Layer Height = 0.2mm Cooling = 100% No Raft Skirt perimeters = 3 Infill = 35%. I strongly recommend flipping the base 180 degrees to get rid of the need for support material completely! Scaling the object up by 1.5% will result in a tighter fit between the top and the body of the filter. When you complete printing the filter out and add your filtration material, ensure that the filament is snug against all four sides (but not too tight) to guarantee proper filtering.
