1:72 Saturn V Launch Platform Remix
thingiverse
This is a 1:72 scale remix of the launch platform for the fantastic 1:60 scale Saturn V model posted by farscape1. At 1:72 scale, each of the eleven platform blocks fits neatly onto the Prusa i3 mk2/2.5/3 build plate. Each block has been cleverly split into two pieces - a top plate and a four-walled hollow base - to save filament while preserving strength. Alignment nubs have been added to register the tops to the bases and to register the blocks to each other. A complete Fusion 360 brep model is included for reference, which can be used to make further edits. I've scaled farscape1's STL files by 0.8333 in order to get to 1:72. Reasons for re-scaling to 1:72 include (1) the more manageable model height compared to 1:60; (2) a six-foot human figure is exactly 1"; and (3) platform blocks can be printed on a Prusa as indicated above. My plan is to complete the entire model - rocket + platform + gantry - and I will post my remixes as I complete them. For any files I've omitted, please use farscape1's original STLs, scaled by 0.8333. As shown in the photos, I've mounted the blocks to a 30" x 24" x 3/4" piece of plywood using #6 x 3/4" screws and PETG clamps - the STL file for the clamp is included. The clamps are slightly oversized to avoid crushing the felt under the clamps, which might stress the parts between the clamps. I've also used zip ties to hold blocks together at the cross-braces.
