Two distinct styles of robust control horns for mid-size model aircrafts are now available, designed from scratch using 3D printable materials like foamboard, cardboard and/or balsa wood. These sturdy control horns boast a wide base to ensure precise positive control authority with minimal flex or flutter of the control surface. They seamlessly integrate with most RC aircraft used for 3D aerobatics and/or high-speed flight. These parts can be effortlessly printed using modern 3D printers, without any support required, thanks to their optimized design. They can also be printed with a variety of materials such as PLA, PETG, ABS, and many other types of printable materials. PLA is an excellent choice for this application unless the model aircraft will be stored in a hot environment like a parked car on a summer day, where temperatures often exceed 55 C or 130 F. At such high temperatures, PLA may deform and warp, which is why I strongly recommend using PETG or ABS instead to print these parts. Since early 2018, I've successfully used these control horns with remarkable results, solving many issues caused by the flimsy hardware often included in foamboard kits.
