1:53 Scale Saturn V

This is a work in progress that will continue to evolve over time. Model files posted are currently complete but may undergo updates as needed. A 1:53 scale replica of the Saturn V Apollo 11 mission that landed on the moon on July 20, 1969 is being created. This year marks the 50th anniversary and this model aims to commemorate that event with a high level of accuracy and detail. The model will be available in two variants - one for display purposes only and another as a working high power model rocket designed for flight. Since many parts are common, designing both simultaneously makes sense. Building both models at the same time is also being considered. However, flying this rocket requires certification, so new high power flyers should start with lower power kits from Estes or Apogee Components instead. If you're a seasoned high power flyer but new to 3D printing, this project may not be suitable for you either. The build process will take place on the designer's schedule and meeting the deadline might be challenging, so missing the anniversary is possible. Getting the LOC kit is recommended if that's your goal. For those interested in creating a display model using 3D printing, this is the right place to be. Assembly of the model will be relatively straightforward. A video series documenting the process can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLIk8AsRj-ngT93m4xjQh8DDna03Bu_HWg The videos and files will be updated regularly as the build progresses, starting from the Launch Escape System (LES) at the top of the rocket and working its way down. Please note that reading the notes is essential for important details. 03/30/2019 - New files have been added for SLA and S-IVB rear transition, along with optional boilerplates for the S-IVB stage. A video discussing build details will be uploaded shortly, so check the notes for further information. **SCALE - VERY IMPORTANT!** 04/12/19 - The primary reason for choosing 1:53 scale was the availability of a 7.51” body tube for building the flyable model. However, it has been discovered that 7.51” is actually the internal body diameter, not the outside diameter, which means the scale is off and noticeable. If you're building a display version, continue as instructed. The pieces will remain available in this scale. If you're building a flying version and haven't started printing yet, use the 1:52 scale instead. If you've already been printing as the models have been released, you have two options - either reprint the pieces you already have in 1:52 scale or print the bottom sections in the correct scale and use a modified version of the interstage that is 1:53 on top and 1:52 on bottom. Both options will be provided. Pieces are labeled according to their scale, with part names starting with 52 being in 1:52 scale and those starting with 53 being in 1:53 scale. 5/30/19 - Parts have been added for the S-IVB stage. Early access to newer parts can be obtained by joining my Patreon! 2/1/20 - Sorry for the delay, but I'm back on the project after some life interruptions. The SII stage is now complete, and most of the SIC stage is done, although the files are currently only for the flight version. More files will be available soon. 3/29/20 - All files for the SIC have been included. Don't forget to read the notes for a full description! 4/29/2020 - Two versions of the fairing for the flight version have been added - one with slots for through the wall fins and another without slots, allowing you to add your own slots as needed. Display versions remain to be completed.
