1.5" BIAS tape maker to create DIY protective mask ties (1" & 2" added)
thingiverse
UPDATE 4/9/2020: I have uploaded folders for 1", 1.5", and 2" bias tape. The 1" and 1.5" folders work well, but the 2" requires more attention and could use a redesign. I've labeled all versions with their tape size. I also made the loading stick longer and tapered at one end for easier loading of the 1" device. This device folds 1", 1.5", or 2" fabric (bias tape) into strings for protective masks. The first section is a typical bias tape folder that folds outsides into the center, while the second section follows to fold the bias tape in half for sewing. This device does not require ironing; the folded tape is fed directly into a sewing machine. The two sections fit together to make a single device for both folds at once (see photo). The sections are designed to come apart for easy loading of the bias tape. To load, place the BiasTapeLoader about 1/2" from the end of the fabric and fold it over the loader. Insert the end into the slot below the "IN" side, with the back of the fabric facing that side. Grab the fabric from the "OUT" side and pull it out about 4". Crease the bias tape folds and place the BiasTapeLoader over the left fold about 1/2" from the end. Fold the end over the loader and insert it into the slot below the "IN" side on the BiasTapeFolderB. Push the loader in until the fabric comes out the "OUT" side. Pull the fabric out and adjust the fold as necessary. Now connect the "OUT" side of BiasTapeFolderA to the "IN" side of BiasTapeFolderB. See the picture of the purple print device for the loading procedure. You are now ready to sew (see the picture of the clear printed device at the sewing machine). Hold the device in one hand and feed it into the sewing machine with the other. Be careful to lay out the cloth strip so there are no twists. If a twist enters the folding device, it will mess up the fold and be hard to recover from.
