This DIY project is an unconventional yet budget-friendly solution. Drill sleeves and bearings can be pricey or hard to come by, but the pen's plastic body wears down quickly. To work around this, a unique approach is employed - utilizing a Staples brand disposable pen. Its internal diameter is a snug 1/4". (The outer diameter measures .34" for reference, though BIC pens are too small.) Here's how to set it up: 1. Remove the pen caps. 2. Cut each pen to 2" in length. 3. Insert a 1/4" drill bit into the pen sleeve. It will fit snugly, but this is essential to prevent movement. 4. Use a depth gauge or ruler to set the sleeve's offset from the drill bit tip accurately. 5. Employ an 11/32" bit to enlarge the holes in the jig. Even perfectly printed components often have ridges, so undersizing the holes slightly helps. Depth Gauge Indicators: • = 1/4". This allows for three depth options: 1/2", 3/4", or 1".
