A compact elevator control horn designed for mid-size model aircrafts can be created using foamboard, cardboard and/or balsa, with a wingspan of approximately 1 to 1.5 meters (~ 39 to 60 inches). The control horn features a large lateral mounting base that ensures positive control authority with minimal flex or flutter of the control surface. It functions well in conjunction with many RC aircrafts for higher speed and 3D aerobatics applications. This 3D printable control horn can be easily printed without support on a modern, cost-effective 3D printer using various materials like PLA, PETG, ABS, and other types of printable materials. To achieve the opposite orientation of the base, simply mirror the object along the “Y” axis in your slicing software before printing. For optimal results, PLA is recommended for this application unless the model aircraft will be exposed to high temperatures exceeding ~55 C (~ 130 F), such as a parked car in summer. In such cases, PETG or ABS should be used instead. I have successfully employed this horn on my models since early 2018 and highly recommend it as an upgrade for many foamboard kits.
