1.25 lb Fractional Weight Plate
thingiverse
1.25 pound fractional weight plates are a game-changer in linear progression weightlifting routines like Greyskull LP. Most standard weight sets have a lowest weight plate of 2.5 pounds, limiting progressions to just 5 pounds. By contrast, 1.25 plates allow for 2.5 pound progressions, perfect for upper body exercises like the overhead and bench press or barbell rows. Unfortunately, these plates come with a hefty price tag. That's why I came up with a clever hack - a shell that you can fill with sand or pennies to create your own fractional plates at home. These plates fit snugly onto a standard 2-inch Olympic barbell. **Here's How It Works** 1. For each weight plate, print two shells and a plug. 2. Fill one of the shells with about 175 pennies or approximately 1.25 cups of sand - the total weight should be around 20 ounces (567 grams). 3. Glue the second shell onto the first. 4. Stuff cotton, rags or paper into the fill hole to take up space not occupied by pennies; if the stuffing puts your weight over 20 ounces, remove some pennies. 5. Insert the plug into the fill hole - gluing it is optional.
