The Leclerc T5 tank was designed to face the threat of Soviet hordes from the Warsaw Pact. It is the first tank of the latest generation of tanks. In addition to good mobility, good protection, and good firepower, it brings a new dimension to MBTs: communication. Called EPC or main combat vehicle, it will be named Leclerc in honor of that marshal. It is the first to be equipped with a two-axis gyroscopic stabilizer, allowing it to hit a target moving at several kilometers, with a 90% or 95% chance of hitting. Compared to Western tanks of its time, it has an automatic loader maintaining a consistent firing rate of 10 shots per minute in standstill and 6 shots while moving. This comes with a load of 40 cartridges. The Leclerc is primarily designed for mobile fire. It uses an oil-air suspension giving it excellent stability. Coupled with a 1500 horsepower supercharged engine, it provides good mobility. It can reach speeds of 71 km/h with a power-to-weight ratio of 30 ch/T.
