1/10 RC wheel hub adapter hex 12mm to geared motor 4mm shaft
thingiverse
This is a custom-made 12mm hex hub adapter for 1/10 RC wheels and geared motors with 4mm shafts. My own wheels feature a 4.9mm deep hex interface, so I designed this adapter to fit perfectly. The motor shaft hole is intentionally made slightly too tight to ensure a secure fit. To make it work, simply heat up the plastic with a heat gun and push the motor shaft in until it fits snugly. The adapter has two holes: one small hole for screwing the adapter onto the motor shaft and another axial hole for attaching the wheel to the adapter. Measuring 16mm in diameter and 6.3mm long, the motor shaft part provides a solid base for the wheel and a robust interface with the motor shaft. The remaining 10.5mm of the shaft are left unobstructed by the adapter, but I've deemed that six millimeters will be sufficient. As my printer tends to over-extrude slightly, this design takes that into account. If your printer is well-calibrated, you might want to resize the part with a few percent less material to achieve optimal results. For easy printing, I've uploaded the STL file and an additional x6 STL file for reference. The adapter was printed using PLA at 5 layers per perimeter and 50% infill, with a brim of at least three millimeters to secure it in place during printing. To enhance layer adhesion, I set my extrusion multiplier to 1.05. These adapters are designed specifically for use on the Martian rover project.
