1/10 RC Spiked Snow/Sand Rims & Tires
thingiverse
This is a remix of kallaspriit's "Spiked" RC car wheel, designed specifically for a 12mm hex setup. The solidworks (2013) source file is available for modification, allowing you to scale the design to suit your needs. I printed my rim at 25% infill with PLA and it held up decently well despite extreme testing conditions. I ran the car hard over numerous jumps in 15 degree weather for a continuous 30 minutes, losing only a couple of spikes due to thin snow conditions. I suspect the design would perform even better in deeper snow or sand and recommend printing with ABS for added durability. Even with some spike loss, the car launched and turned extremely well, handling 100x better than it did with stock tires on the driving wheel. For optimal performance, I suggest printing two sets of tires; one set for the driving wheels and another for the non-driving wheels. Videos showcasing the tires in action can be found below. The V2 version has been uploaded, featuring significantly larger inner and outer spikes that should withstand even the most extreme conditions when printed with PLA or ABS. If you decide to print either wheel type, please share your experiences by uploading pictures and commenting on how they perform for you. Your feedback is invaluable in helping me refine the design further.
