I'm hooked on playing wargames, but they can get pretty pricey. To make games more immersive often means splurging on cool scenery and terrain. Scouring the internet for awesome scenery turns up loads of laser cut MDF stuff, with creators using a layering technique to build walls and other cool features. I'm particularly fond of destroyed houses and apocalyptic scenes, so I decided to ditch buying pricey houses for a fraction of the cost. Starting small, I crafted a ramshackle shed, half of it blown away, and the rest barely holding on. I designed this piece in TinkerCad and gave it a comic book-style makeover with some paint. What's great about layering is you can paint everything first, then assemble it, achieving a pretty cool depth effect. Plus, these 3D printing files are almost identical to laser cutting board, offering similar freedom and flexibility. Simply print it out, add some color, and glue it together.
