Location: Site Location Details: Warburg, Holsterburg, Kreis Höxter (Germany) Discovery Circumstances: In May 2017, a discovery was made. Object Found: An elephant ivory object was discovered. Object Dimensions: The object is 6.3 cm high, 7.1 cm wide, and 0.7 cm thick. Dating: The object dates back before 1170. Historical Period: It belongs to the High Middle Ages. Artistic Style: It is a product of Romanesque art. Importance: It was likely imported from somewhere outside of its region of production. Production Region: The exact region where it was produced is unclear, but possible locations include the Byzantine Empire, Metz, Liège, Cologne, or one of the monasteries along the Weser River. Time Period of Production: It was likely created between 1100 and 1200. Current Location: The object is currently housed in the Central Fund Archive of the LWL-Archaeology for Westphalia in Münster. 3D Model Details: A 3D model of the object has been created using a Nikon D850 camera and Reality Capture software by Florian Westphal of the LWL-Archaeology for Westphalia.
