048 Garnet Amphibolite

sketchfab

The garnet amphibolite is a compact, brownish to greenish grey rock with distinct bands and medium-grained texture (0.1 to 0.2 mm) that forms through recrystallization under high viscosity and directed pressure conditions. High-pressure metamorphism causes mineral grains to become flattened and elongated, producing a banded texture between schistose and coarse-grained. This rock was extracted from a former copper mine near Santiago de Compostela in A Coruña, Spain. Retrieved from: Pérez-Rey, I., Arzúa, J., Barbiero, J., Alejano, L. R., & Walton, G. (2014).
