A bronze eagle figure from the fortified settlement of Arzi in the Arahkhoy Valley of North Ossetia, Russia, that was brought there as a military trophy during the Arab-Alanian wars. The figure accurately conveys the plasticity of the body and behavior of a predatory bird. On the vessel's torso, traces of silver and copper processing remain. A message in Arabic on the eagle's neck reads: "In the name of Allah the Merciful, the Compassionate." There is also an inscription with the name of the craftsman - Suleiman, and the date of creation - 189 AH, corresponding to 796-797 AD. The eagle served as a symbol of the Arzi village. In translation from Ossetian, Arzi means eagle. It was passed down through generations as a sign of power to the eldest family member. Today, this eagle figure is the oldest precisely dated bronze item from the Islamic period.
