The upper stone of a hand-operated millstone made in the 3rd millennium BC was crafted with precision. These ancient mills were widely used for grinding grains and consisted of two round stones stacked on top of each other. The lower stone had a protrusion at its center, serving as an axis to allow the upper stone to rotate smoothly. A circular indentation at the top of the upper stone collected the grain, where it was met by the protrusion from the lower stone, while a hole on the edge accommodated a wooden handle that facilitated manual operation. The ground flour flowed out through the circumference of the lower stone and accumulated in a nearby container.
