0.55 tol Gear Bearing
thingiverse
This 3D printed astronomical model displays our solar system with Mercury to Pluto in proportion relative to Earth at a scale of approximately one-twentieth its size. A sun made up of almost 900 toothed gear rings can rotate around an axle, simulating the speed and duration that each planet actually spends traveling the length of their orbits in one complete cycle. Each individual planet's gears have multiple rows, reflecting their varying distances from the central mass while spinning a respective orbital speed, creating distinct patterns based on these factors. By turning different knobs at the back of the display unit users can change gear ratios and set desired positions of planetary bodies around their main axle with relative ease - giving us more precise understanding when it comes time analyzing certain properties that lie behind their formation!
